Karen and I celebrated the 40th year of marriage at mass on World Marriage Day

An old friend, Fr Peter Dillon, celebrated the mass at Mudgeeraba. We met Peter in our second year of marriage at St Bernard’s Upper Mt Gravatt, my first teaching school and Fr Peter’s first parish.

Incredibly in his sermon, he mentioned three key necessities of marriage: truth, respect and dedication, in that order. ‘Be Truthful’ coincidentally was the theme for today’s ‘1God.world’ article published above.

The highlight of the mass was our renewal of vows.

“I have taken you and take you again Karen/Bryan, to be my wife/husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love you and honour you all the days of my life.”

Fr Peter is everything a good, honest, genuine priest is. Highly intellectual and spiritual, pastoral and empathetic. Able to mix well with everyday people and those well-off alike. A perfect role model and support.

We have been very fortunate to have had Fr Peter numerous times and in various roles: as our priest, Parish Priest and Dean of the Gold Coast: Upper Mt Gravatt, Surfers Paradise x2 and Southport. He is now PP at Surfers and Dean of the South Coast.
