How to pray to GOD? A 'Perfect' example!

The ‘OUR FATHER’ is the PERFECT TEMPLATE – no matter our religion.

This form of prayer explained below is based on the structure and themes of the ‘Our Father’, the prayer taught to humanity by Jesus in the Bible.

We often use our own words, thoughts and feelings based on each theme in the prayer. Themes from the prayer plus suggestions on what we say/do follow. The words from the 'Our Father' are in inverted commas:

1. ‘Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be your name…’

We begin by acknowledging the supremacy and divinity of God and the place of God as the creator of absolutely everything. God as absolute love who created everything out of love. God who loves each of us equally as God’s unique creation!

2. ‘Your Kingdom come’.

We then ask for God’s assistance in bringing God’s ‘Kingdom’, the oneness with God, to be integral with our world. God coming to us in a very special way,

3. ‘Your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven’.

This is most importantly followed by our request acknowledging the need for God’s Will to be done here; hence through humanity and with God’s help, we turn ourselves over to God as completely as we can,

4. ‘Give us this day our daily bread’

We ask God for intimate assistance with what we truly need for our existence on so many levels from basic food, clothing and warmth through to an absolute love for God and all of creation…

5. ‘And forgive us our trespasses

As we forgive those who trespass against us’

Often there will also be aspects of seeking forgiveness for turning away from God through thoughts or actions, along with forgiving others and ourselves. It could also include asking for God’s support to achieve God’s goals for us, etc.

6. 'And lead us not into temptation

But deliver us from evil. Amen

We seek help to protect us from all that is evil and the temptation to sin: e.g. through people, our thoughts and feelings...

I believe we need to offer ourselves over to God – completely! Only then can we truly become one with God on Earth – in our preparation for the salvation with God in Heaven.
