Good News - Catholic Church 2nd Largest Employer in Australia

1736 Schools, primary and secondary – educating 765 000 students 68 Hospitals 414 Aged Care & Nursing Homes Universities – ACU at Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Ballarat & Notre Dame – Freemantle Employing 220 000 Australians + assistance from 3 000 priests and 5 000 religious brothers and sisters. + 10 000s of volunteers in social justice/welfare programs, e.g. Vinnies, Rosies, Caritas, Catholic Missions, Jesuit Mission & Refugee Service, etc.

The Catholic Church in Australia is the second largest Australian employer to the combined Governments’ public services, federal, state and local. The giant conglomerate Westfarmers is also equal second.

The Church is the employing body. Its overall principles are always based on the Catholic Social Teachings.

It is primarily there as a genuine, loving light to the world and to assist its 5 000 000 followers and all others who seek their help.

If the Church was to close and sell all its property to developers and give the funds to the government, it might gain $30B or the equivalent of just 40 days of the federal government’s education, health, social services and welfare budget. All the services would then need to be fully funded by the government. Obviously, the Catholic Church is saving the governments in Australia billions of dollars each year on year.

It is not the buildings that hold the true worth. It is the people associated with the buildings doing what is required for the community, particularly in the fields of education, health, social justice and welfare. The buildings are not truly the Church’s to sell anyway, as most of these have been passed down from previous generations to help future generations.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney has this month produced an excellent video explaining all the above. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXO48Ow40n0

A young lady presents and is supported by informative and interesting graphics. It is titled: ‘The True Wealth of the Catholic Church’. More videos are to follow in this series.

Apart from being a most fantastic GOOD NEWS story, this series is produced to counter the misleading figures being promoted within our society, along with an ongoing campaign from sections of the media and various activists, a number associated with minor political parties.
