Only 1 God for Everyone
Christianity has one God. The Trinity is the one God but with three ‘persons’ in one. Islam has one God. Islam rejects all other claimed gods. Islam teaches about the same God of Christianity and Judaism, but believes God is revealed imperfectly in these religions. Hinduism emphasises one God, Brahman, who has many manifestations. Judaism has Yahweh as the only God and entity to be praised - there are no other gods. Each religion developed at a particular time and place in history. God revealed Godself to each religious community, which then developed accordingly. Following are various scriptural references from Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. * Note each speaks of only 1 God. Christianity: “Jesus answered, ‘The First is, ‘Hear oh Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one…’” (Mark 12:29) “Jesus answered him, ‘It is written, Worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.’” (Luke 4:8) “He said to him, ‘What is written in the law? What do you read there?’ He answered, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:27) Islam: “He is the One God; the Creator, the Initiator, the Designer… (Qur’an 59:24) Say, “He is God, the One. God, to Whom the creatures turn for their needs. He begets not, nor was He begotten, and there is none like Him.” (Qur’an, 112:1-4) “God, there is no God but Him, The Living, the Eternal One.” (Qur’an 2:225)
Hinduism:
“He is One only without a second.” (Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1)
“O friends, do not worship anybody but Him, the Divine One. Praise Him alone.” (Rigveda 8:1:1)
“Brahman is all… He who concentrates on Brahman in all his actions shall surely reach Brahman.” (Bhagavad Gita IV:12:24)
Judaism (and Christianity):
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” (Deuteronomy 6:4-5) “…so that they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is no one besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other...” (Isiah 45:6)
